Longboarding has carved out quite a niche within the outdoor
sports industry.
Longboards are basically a skateboard with a longer and
sometimes wider shape used for longboarding. They are most
commonly used for either downhill racing or transportation.
Although in the last couple years the sport has began to evolve.
Their are many forms of longboarding which is one of the reasons
the sport is growing as a whole. Longboards can be shaped
in various different ways, depending on the type of riding
intended. Their greater weight and bulkiness makes them less
suitable for many skateboarding tricks, but contributes to a
fluid motion by providing more momentum. Longboards were
originally intended to surf the streets.
Origins Of The Longboard... As We Know It
Surfers in the southern California area started the sport so
they had something to do when the waves were not existent. Some
say it started in Hawaii, but their doesn't seem to be any facts
to back that up. It doesn't matter who invented longboarding
we're all just glad someone did. The longboard design allows big
turns or quick short carves similar to a surfboard. Longboards
are so diverse and functional that the sport of longboarding
will continue to grow and pushed to new heights.
